Echeveria rusby is a rare succulent species native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, including regions like Arizona and northern Mexico, specifically Chihuahua, Sinaloa, and Sonora. It thrives in rocky, shaded canyon slopes and cliffs, often near seasonal water flows. This environment contributes to its resilience in arid conditions and its preference for well-drained soils.
The plant forms compact, stemless rosettes typically ranging from 2 to 4 inches wide in the wild, expanding up to 4 inches under cultivation. The leaves are fleshy, oblong to ovate, and display a range of colors from pale green to reddish-violet, often with a powdery coating. In spring, Echeveria rusby produces upright flower stalks bearing clusters of star-shaped flowers that are white to yellow with red banding.
With its low, clumping growth habit, Echeveria rusby is well-suited for rock gardens, container arrangements, and as a groundcover in xeriscaping designs. Its natural coloration and form provide a subtle contrast to more vibrant succulents, making it a valuable addition to diverse plantings.

Prefers bright, indirect light or partial sun. Can tolerate full sun with acclimation but may require protection from intense afternoon rays.
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
Thrives in low to moderate humidity. Ensure good air circulation to prevent moisture-related issues.
Optimal growth occurs between 65–80°F. Protect from temperatures below 40°F.
Use a well-draining, gritty soil mix, such as cactus or succulent potting mix with added perlite or sand.
Feed sparingly during the growing season with a diluted, balanced fertilizer. Avoid fertilizing during dormancy.
Non-toxic to pets and humans, but ingestion may cause allergic reaction, so keep it out of reach of kids and pets.
